Lightning’s first sponsor was called “Smell Swell”, but now he is sponsored by Rust-eze Medicated Bumper Ointment. He is racer #95 and at the beginning of the movie Cars, he is racing his first Piston Cup race. He is based on NASCAR vehicles, but with design influences from the Mazda Miata and Dodge Viper . Late in the film, he is painted much like the Chevrolet Corvette C1. His girlfriend is Sally. He is best friends with tow truck Mater from Radiator Springs.
Sally Carrera is one of the main characters in Cars and Cars 2. Her boyfriend is Lightning McQueen. She always calls Lightning “Stickers” because Lightning’s headlights are really stickers. Sally is the town attorney of Radiator Springs and owner of Cozy Cone Motel. Sally’s tattoo pinstriping is left over from her early days. Sally is a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera. Her license plate reads “301PCE” and her tires reads Lightyear.
