My daughter is nearly 4 years old and “Jake and the Neverland Pirates” is one of her favorite shows. Jake is consistently one of her favorites and the only one that she tries to act out. Her friends all rotate pretending to be Izzy (they are girls… so that wouldn’t dream of being Jake!) and they chase after Captain Hook’s treasure. I digress.

The Lego Duplo set is fun for our daughter because it allows her to build and act out imaginary scenes from Jake. The Neverland Hideout is a fun playset, but it is more difficult to assemble than the Jake’s ship Bucky. The nice thing is that it can be put together in a variety of of configurations/

If you combine the Neverland Hideout with Jake’s Hip Bucky your child will have all of the main characters from the show and has enough blocks to create a variety of scenes.

Notes

– Comes with Izzy and Cubby and both characters look like they do on the cartoon.

– It is unlikely that children under four can make the hideout look like it does on the box cover, but really there is no wrong way to put together the hideout.

– One gold doubloon is included

– Has a fun slide for the characters to go down.

– Comes with two rotating blocks. This allows for rotating trees, bridges, or even the crows nest!

– If you are trying to decide between Jake’S Ship Bucky or the Neverland Hideout Playset – I would recommend Bucky since it includes Jake, Hook, and Bucky.

Final Verdict – Fans of the Disney Junior show “Jake and the Neverland Pirates” or fans of Lego Duplo will be thrilled with this playset. You may want to consider adding the Lego Duplo jake’s Pirate Ship Bucky set as well. Recommended

The Pirate Ship Bucky is pretty easy to assemble and has a water canon that is easy to load and fire. The Pirate Island has numerous configurations and may require the help of a parent in order to get it to look like the picture.

If you combine the Jake’s Ship Bucky with the other Lego Duplo Playset – The Neverland Hideout your child will have all of the main characters from the show and has enough blocks to create a variety of scenes.

Notes

– Comes with Jake and Captain Hook. Skully is included but he it painted onto a block. The good news is that Jake and Captain Hook look like they do on the cartoon.

– Bucky is pretty simple to put together a parent may need to help in the beginning but most children 3 and up will be able to do it with minimal frustration.

– Pirate Island is a little more difficult – there are many configurations but to get it to look like the box a parent or older sibling may need to help out.

– A treasure chest and one gold doubloon is included

– The water canon fires shots several feet through the air – two shots are included.

– If you are trying to decide between Jake’S Ship Bucky or the Neverland Hideout Playset – I would recommend Bucky since it includes Jake, Hook, and Bucky.

Final Verdict – Fans of the Disney Junior show “Jake and the Neverland Pirates” or fans of Lego Duplo will be thrilled with this playset. You may want to consider adding the Lego Duplo Neverland Hideout set as well. Recommended

The Play Doh Diggin Rigs, while not necessarily designed for boys, help to give a gender balance to the Play Doh Prettiest Princess playsets. Not that one can *only* be played with by boys or girls, but they certainly have a targeted demographic.

Rowdy the Garbage Truck lifts the garbage into the back of the truck. In the back, as Rowdy rolls down the road it compressed and spits out a variety of garbage shapes (like bugs, fish, and other yucky things).

– Comes with Rowdy the Garbage Truck and four large cans of Play Doh – Yellow, Blue, Purple/Lavender, and Green

– Rowdy the Garbage Truck gobbles up Play Doh garbage and spits out trash.

– Comes with a worm extruder – you can make plenty of worms for your trash.

– Other than the Play Doh being projected out of the back of the garbage truck – clean-up is pretty easy

Final Verdict – The Play Doh trash Tossin’ Rowdy the Garbage Truck is a fun twist on playing with Play Doh.

The PlaySkool Poppin’ Park Popn’ Pick Up Elefun Toy combines the Elefun and a new take on the old push popcorn popper. Playskool also produces the popular PlaySkool Park Elefun Busy Ball Popper, which is fun but a little loud. The Pick Up toy has a couple of advantages it helps to encourage your child to walk (and chase the balls) and it is much quieter than the Busy Ball Poppers.

Notes-

– Your child pushed the toy and has balls pop out of the Elefun’s trunk. The Elefun can then suck up the balls as you roll over them!

– This is one of the rare toys that works better on carpet than on wood floors. On hardwood floors the balls roll everywhere (like… under furniture)

– Toddlers (even preschoolers) may have a tough time picking up the balls with the toy – the combination of a small opening and rolling bars makes it more difficult than you would think.

– Does not require batteries – so it is relatively quiet. This is a nice contrast to the Playskool Busy Ball Poppers which can be pretty loud!

– Comes with 5 balls and three can be stored in the handle

– Designed for children ages 18 and up – but children over 3 years may get bored.

– Some minor assembly is required – does require a philips head screwdriver

Final Verdict – A fun and (relatively) quiet toy for toddler. They may become a little frustrated in trying to pick up the balls, but this is one toy that you can purchase for a child without getting an angry eye from a parent.

“Three Little Pigs” has been popular for generations. Play Doh combines three little cans of Play Doh with the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf so that kids (probably best for preschoolers) can use imaginative play to act out the tale.

As a note – this is a minor Play Doh playset – there are a limited number of molds and capability to the Playset. While it is fun don’t expect something like the Play Doh Drill N Fill Playset or the Play Doh Puppies Playset.

– The Big Bad Wolf is a hard plastic figurine… although the is attached to a chimney to the Big Bad Wolf – we would have preferred that he was stand alone.

Final Verdict – The Play Doh Three Little Playset is a fun way for a preschooler to turn one of their favorite fairy tales into imaginative Play Doh fun. Unfortunately, a better mold for the Three Little Pigs would have really helped make the playset even better.

On a rainy day our three year old (soon to be four year old) daughter loves to do crafts indoors. Over the last year or two our family has started playing with Play Doh.

The Play Doh Puppies Playset ranks up with the Play Doh Drill N Fill Playset as out overall favorite. While my wife and I need to help our daughter with some of the molds she really loves making and giving the doggy treats, bones, and making a bed for its puppies. In a world of motorized and talking gadgets it nice to have something that helps use some artistic expression and imagination for play.

– Placing Play Doh in the puppies head will let you do two things (either separately or together) – By placing Play Doh in the head and pushing down will allow the puppies tongue extend and/or cause its hair to grow.

Our family enjoys playing with Play Doh toys. They gives us a chance to have some creative play time on rainy or cool days. It really does make a nice alternative to TV. What we have found is that the Play Doh playsets that allow our 3 year old daughter to engage her imagination turn out to be the biggest hits. The Play Doh Fun Food Movie Snacks helps to incorporate the fun of Play Doh with one our daughter’s favorite activities… going to the movies! While movies are not included it does allow you to run a popcorn popper and make a variety of fun treats.

– Comes with a popcorn maker… place the entire can of white Play Doh in the popper while pressing down on the popcorn popper. Once the “Popcorn” is about half an inch high turn the handle and cut the popcorn!

– The biggest negative is that the french fry press (as we call it) is a bit difficult to clean…. however, there are far messier Play Doh toys out there

Final verdict – The Play Doh Fun Food Movie Snacks playset is a fun way to make a variety of yummy snacks.
