On a hot day in the park, Barney teaches the kids about the importance of water to both humans and plants. They water the plants, make lemonade, learn the right way to brush their teeth, and then imagine a pool to go swimming in.

Emily needs to write an original Mother Goose rhyme for school, but is finding the assignment difficult. Fortunately, Barney has a friend who can help-Mother Goose herself! She reminds Emily that the rhymes should be fun-and thus begins a happy romp as Barney and the kids play games based on Mother Goose rhymes. Properly inspired, the kids are able to write nice Mother Goose rhymes of their own-so nice, in fact, that Mother Goose plans to write them down in her own book at home!

Curtis is embarrassed to be dressed like a tree for a school play. Barney assures him that it’s a terrific role and hopes Curtis will feel the same way when he learns more about trees. The Adventure Screen shows many different types of trees in different environments. The children are surprised to discover how many of their favorite foods and products come from trees. This leads to a discussion of a lumberjack’s job, and Barney tells the fantastic tale of Paul Bunyan. In the end, Curtis has an entirely new outlook about his role in the play.
