The Sofia the First Royal Prep Talking Desk looks like something that would be in the show, but we wish it was better designed and built. There are three main flaws to the desk, and while children may not mind they will definitely make parents cringe.

Notes-

– One of the flaws is that the top of the desk has a faux wood appearance (despite being purple). The issue is that the top of the desk has a wood texture and is not smooth. This makes it very difficult to write or color without getting your pencil/crayon stuck in the grooves.

– Another flaw is that desk is too small. Our four year daughter (who is tall for her age) is too tall to sit on the stool and fit into the desk.

– The final flaw is that the desk is made completely of plastic and is quite flimsy – if it is not against a wall it may want to tip over.

– Now the good news – the desk is very fun and features a built in chalk board.

– A compartment flips up on the desk to reveal a storage space for supplies

– A *locker* with a shelf is included

– Assembly takes about 20 minutes and is not very difficult – but be warned, once it is put together it is nearly impossible to disassemble.

Final verdict – The Sofia the First Royal Prep Desk may be fun for younger children, but kids over the age of three may be too old/big to use it.

My daughter is a big fan of Play-Doh play sets. Her favorites are like the Play Doh Disney Prettiest Princess play sets because they allow her to mix Play Doh with her imagination. The Play Doh Scoops n Treats Set allows her to make a variety of candy and ice cream treats – making it a bit hit.

– Comes with 8 total cans of Play Doh – including a very real looking mint chocolate chip.

– Has a waffle maker – which can also make a variety of candy – like gummy bears, candy hearts and others.

– Clean up is pretty easy compared to most Play Doh sets

Final Verdict – A fun play set that allows your children to make waffles, sundaes, popsicles, and a variety of candy – it is lots of fun.

The Octonauts is a popular children’s show on both Disney Junior and on the BBC.

As parents we really like the educational and conservation aspects of the show. The Octonauts search the ocean for various forms of sea life (the Octopod comes wth a few different sea creatures). The Octonauts also focus on how to protect ocean life and other aspects of conservation.

Notes

– Comes with four removable pods – each pod serves a function – Kwakaii’s living quarters, A kitchen, and a medical quarters

– Each pod has an attachment hanging from it…. chairs, anchors, and other devices.

– Barnacles and Kwazaii are included – each can sit in the escape pod or stand on the base.

– A trap door let’s the Octonauts shoot out of the Octopod and into the ocean.

– Unlike some of the other Octonaut play sets this one can not be used in water.

Final Verdict – The Octopod makes a nice base station for any fan of the Octonauts. I wouldn’t call it a doll house but it does make a nice living quarters for the Octonauts.

Chuggington is a fictional town where young trains – Brewster, Wilson, Hoot and Toot, Koko, and Piper learn the ways of the railroad and friendship. The set let’s your child recreate the Frostini’s Meltdown where Brewster has to help deliver ice to the ice cream factory. Chuggington is broadcast over Disney Junior in the USA and BBC in the UK.

While Thomas the Train is more popular – Chuggington is still a very popular show for boys…. and some girls.

Notes

– The track only fits together one way – and it doesn’t well together, so it takes 10 minutes to put together (if you read the directions) or 1 hour if you don’t read the instructions.

– Comes with Brewster – a car, and a rail car saw – each car has a magnet on the front and back to connect.

– Has a crane for loading for loading unloading the blocks of ice onto Brewster.

– The tunnel on top of the bridge can be removed and can be placed anywhere on the track.

– Again, the biggest negative is the fit of the tracks – in some place they fit very loosely but in other areas they pinch and must be forced to lock together.

– Brewster and the rail cars do not roll smoothly over all of the tracks – and will likely jump off of the tracks when going down the hill.

Final Verdict – The Chuggington Wooden Railway is a nice,but expensive, wooden railway. I wish the the track would fit together better so that Brewster and the cars could roll along the track a little more consistently. However, the time and effort still brings smiles from the kids.

The Play Doh Funny Pumper is a popular toy from the 1970’s. While it may not have all of the popular characters and colors of the modern sets they are still very cool. In some ways it looks like an old fashioned TV.

The Play Doh set works like some of the others. You snap together the molds and place them on top of the Funny Pumper crank down on the lever and create your pumperoos.

Notes-

– Comes with 6 molds for creating Pumperoos – While none of them are recognizable – they are mainly funny looking critters, aliens, and robots

– You will need LARGE cans of Play Doh in order to have enough Play Doh to make the Pumperoos

– When you open up the molds you have a little Play Doh statue Pumperoo
Final Verdict- As you can see Play Doh toys have evolved since the early 1970’s – while the newer play sets are more colorful but they are not necessarily any more fun.
