Our 3 year old daughter is a fan of Sofia the First on Disney Jr. Disney, always thinking of news ways to marketing their brand has licensed a bunch of new Sofia toys to the toy hungry girls and boys out there. The Sofia the First Talking Amulet is fairly priced, pretty well designed, and it works

Notes

– The Amulet is a little too large – although it must be large in order to work as a talking card reader. At first my daughter thought that it was a little too large to be *real* jewelery.

– Due to the size, I am a bit worried about the clasp on the chain – it hasn’t broken yet (and it may not) but it is my main area of concern.

– Includes 12 cards – inserting one of the cards triggers the amulet (in Sofia’s voice) to give a tip on being a princess. Each of these *princess tips* are nice rules for everyday life.

– My wife and I like the fact that they included a nice carrying case for the cards.

– Make sure that you take the Amulet out of *Try Me Mode* in order for the card reader to work.

– Batteries are included – although they are non-standard batteries (not AAA or AA).

Final Verdict – The Sofia the First Talking Magical Amulet is a fun accessory for any fan of Disney Jr’s Sofia the First. It is a little large, but it does work well – so I can recommend it!

Our family has reviewed several of the Mattel Sofia the First toys, and several of them have been disappointing. This has all changed with the Sofia the First Talking Sofia and Animal Friends doll. The doll looks and sounds just like Sofia, works each time an animal is placed in front of her amulet…. and best yet – our 3 year old daughter (who happens to be a huge Sofia fan) loves it.

Notes-

– In order to get her to work simply put an animal (only one at a time) in front of Sofia’s magical amulet – and watch the interaction.

– Comes with the Sofia doll, Robin the Robin (which does not look like a Robin), Mia the Bluebird, and Clover the bunny. Each of the animal figures are 2 to 3 inches in height so they are big enough that they can be kept around small children.

– Make sure that you take Sofia out of the *Try Me* mode in order to get to her to interact with her animal friends.

– Sofia is about 9 inches in height and she fully moves and bends.

– When pressed the amulet causes to speak – even if an animal is not around.

– Sofia’s shoes and dress can be removed.

Final Verdict – So far the Disney Sofia the First Talking Sofia and Animals Friends is the best of the newly created Sofia toys. Our daughter likes the size of the doll and how she is able to interact with her animal friends. My wife and I like that the doll is well built and it works every time our daughter plays with it!

A Disney Sofia the First Toy Review from The_Engineering_Family. As many of you know Disney does not directly make toys. They license toy manufacturers to make a variety of toys… and everyone should win. In the case of Mattel and Sofia the First, several of the toys have are pretty good (like the Sofia the First – Sofia and Friends Talking Animals) while others needed more time on the development floor (like the Sofia the First Magical Talking Castle). This toy, the Sofia Royal Vanity falls someplace in the middle.

Notes-

– With a push of the button the vanity switches from a picture of Sofia and Amber to a mirror. This is easily the best feature of the playset

– Comes with 3 necklaces and 2 additional tiaras – all of which can fit in the drawer of the vanity. We did have an issue with a couple of the necklaces getting stuck in the drawer, but this wasn’t too big of a deal.

– The Sofia Royal Vanity playset (and the Sofia included) does not work/interact with the Sofia the First Magical Talking Castle.

Final Verdict – A fun but somewhat limited Sofia the First Toy – our 3 year old daughter enjoys it but I have my doubts if she will be playing with it in 6 months.

There are a variety of playhouses and castles that have recently entered the market. Three of the most popular are the Sofia the First Magical Talking Castle (which is not getting many good reviews), the Disney Little People Princess Songs Palace, and the Dora the Explorer Playtime together Dora and Me Playhouse.

Sofia the First Magical Talking Castle. The castle is cute, and even features the stained glass that was broken by Philip. The issue is that it seems like Mattel may have brought the product to market a little too soon. The voice box seems to malfunction routinely causing it either to not work or for it to use the wrong character’s voice.

Disney Little People Princess Songs Palace – A great toy, especially for younger children. Our daughter loves the way that each disney princess has a variety of phrases that they play. Another feature is the door plays regal music each time they are opened and closed. A real winner for our daughter.

Dora the Explorer Playtime together Dora and Me Playhouse – Probably the best playhouse in the bunch. This playhouse has a variety of phrases and has a doorbell that can pushed. Another advantage is that is has the largest play area of the three playhouses featured in the video.

Sofia the First has quickly become one of my daughter’s favorite shows on Disney Junior..

– Sofia requires a small fixture ( which is included) in order to stand.

– Minimus’ wings go up and down when he is raised and lowered – easily the best feature of the toy.

– It is kind of difficult to get Sofia locked into place on Minimus – often times the first time Minimus flutters his wings she will get knocked off.

Final Verdict – While I am still disappointed with a couple of the design features it still brings a smile to my daughter.

A Disney Toy Review on The_Engineering_Family. Our 3 year old daughter is a big fan of Disney Jr’s Minnie Mouse Bowtique. While she like several different cartoons Minnie’s Bowtique is one of the few that makes her laugh. What my wife and I like about the Minnie Bowtique toys is that they are well designed. They are well built, they work on carpet, and everything fits in the playset for storage (reducing the chance that pieces will get lost).

Notes-

– Assembly takes less than 2 minutes – the most time consuming aspect is putting the polka dot stickers on the yacht.

– Minnie Mouse easily snaps onto the surfboard and other accessories.

– Even though it is a boat this yacht is not designed for the bath tub.

– Three wheels on the bottom of the yacht means that it rolls easily across carpet.

– When your child is finished all of the accessories (the surfboard, lounge chair, table, and round life preserver) all fit inside the yacht.

– The side elevator works well – but the slide leave a little to be desired. It is a little difficult to get Minnie to slide all the way down the slide without falling off.

Final Verdict – The Minnie Mouse Polka Dot Yacht is a fun toy for any fan of Minnie Mouse Bowtique. if you are simply looking for a toy boat for your child there are probably better ones out there, but for fans of Minnie this one is a likely winner.
